License Renewal
A licensee that is not exempt or inactive must complete 8 hours of continuing
education per year.
Maintain records of the course title, description, date, address of location, and
number of hours earned.
Ensure at least 50% of subject matter broadens the knowledge of the cosmetic
art profession (instructors – 50% teacher training techniques/and enhance the
ability to communicate)
After completion of these requirements date and sign affirmation of course
completion. All licensees may be subject to audit and must provide records of the
course title, description, date, address of the location, and a number of hours
earned if requested by the Board. (All Board audits will review actual course
attendance hours.
Exemptions: A licensee who is in active practice as a COSMETOLOGIST and
has at least 20 years of consecutive years of experience as a cosmetologist can
apply for an exemption from the continuing education requirement. 20 Years Work
Experience Exemption Form.
Individuals age 60 or older with 10 years of continuous work experience can
apply for exemption from CE with the exception of teacher licenses.
60 Years of Age and 10 Years Work Experience Exemption Form.
ARE YOU AN APPROVED CONTINUING EDUCATION PROVIDER?
The North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners does not approve CE Providers but requires continuing education hours for license renewal. Center of Attraction Hair Gallery’s education meets the requirements for continuing education hours.
HOW DO I RENEW MY COSMETOLOGY LICENSE?
You must submit a renewal application online.
IS ANYONE EXEMPT FROM THE CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENT?

Yes, a downloadable certificate of completion will be emailed to you upon class completion.
DO I NEED TO SHOW MY CERTIFICATE TO PROVE THAT I COMPLETED MY CONTINUING EDUCATION HOURS?
Upon request by the Board, an applicant shall prove completion of required continuing education credits by submitting a certification of completion.
WILL YOU REPORT MY COMPLETED HOURS TO THE BOARD?
No, Licensees must maintain documentation of completed CE for three years and provide documentation to the board upon request
